Jeff Simpson

Play Atlantic are thrilled to announce that Tennis Northern Academy Director Jeff  Simpson has joined their team of representatives.

A former ATP top 100 player (No.65 in 1975 & No.75 in 1982) Jeff represented New Zealand in The Davis Cup on numerous occassions and won 9 international tour tournaments during his playing career.

A swift transition from playing to coaching meant that in 1983 Jeff became an international touring coach to many of the worlds top ATP and WTA players.  In 1983 he began coaching Chris Lewis, who went on to reach a Wimbledon final in that same year and also achieved an ATP world ranking of No.19 during his career.

Jeff went on to coach Ivan Lendl in 1987-89, during which he achieved the ATP ranking of number one in the world at the US Open.  Other notable players that Jeff has coached include Kelly Evernden (ATP No.31), Brett Steven (ATP No.32) and Belinda Cordwell (WTA No.17).

Previous roles also include being a former Davis Cup captain and National Director of Coaching and Player Development.  Jeff has been working at the Regional centre in northern New Zealand since 2000 and through-out his coaching career has gained vast experience placing athletes in American Universities on sports scholarships.

We all welcome Jeff and know his extensive knowledge and experience will prove to be an excellent addition to the team.
