College of the month for September

Rollins College is a small private instituition with an undergraduate enrollment of 1,700 students.  Established in 1885 it is situated within a beautiful 70 acre campus a few mintues away from Orlando Florida.  
 

As with every College of the Month we will be focussing on the three main talked about areas that student-athletes and their parents want to know:

1. The academic level of the university.
2. The sports program.
3. What's student life like?

Academics

Voted as the number one regional university in the south by the prestigious US News College rankings in 2011 for a variety of its academic accomplishments, it is certainly a small university packing a big punch.  

The tuition fees are currently $37,640 with room and board at $11,760 a year.  Although this is quite high 48% of the full-time undergraduates here apply and are granted needs based financial aid, which amounts to an average of $28,000.  So therefore if you show either academic or athletic talent or are financially in need of aid, the university can and will assist you to make sure it is affordable.

The student:faculty ratio at Rollins is 10:1 and with almost 70% of classes consisting of 20 students or less, you're guaranteed to get some great individual attention in class, whether you would like it or not! This will almost certainly help you learn and excel in which ever field you choose to pursue. 

The most common majors chosen by students are Biological and Biomedical Sciences; Business, Management and Marketing; Psychology; Social Sciences; and Visual and Performing Arts.  And to give you an indication of student satisfaction at Rollins, they have a very high freshman retention rate of 84.5%.  

Sports Program

Rollins compete with in the NCAA Division 2 Sunshine State Conference and are consistently found near the top of the national rankings in every sport that they compete in. The Mens soccer team are currently ranked number two in the nation, the Mens tennis team number 8 and Womens golf number 3 to name just a few.

Student Life

Rollins is a very fun and viberant instituion that all the students enjoy being a part of.  Its gender distribution is 41% male and 59% female, with 67% of student living on campus. It's a very diverse student body with 47% coming from outside the state of Florida and over 4% being international students.
